1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Jesus now full of the Holy Spirit not led by the Spirit to be tempted for God tempts no one (Jam 1:13) He is led into the wilderness by the Spirit, where testing (strongs conc) takes place The first Adam was tested in the garden and was deceived. The last Adam, Jesus has reclaimed all that Adam lost. (1Cor 15:45 amp).

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

The devil begins to question Jesus identity, the same way he did in the garden when he said to Eve "has God said" (Gen 3:1) now he says are you really the Son of God? Jesus did not have to prove anything, He knew who He was (Mark 14:62).

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Jesus does not discuss who He is, but immediately answers with the Word of God. (Duet 8:3) which speaks and is alive and full of power (Heb 4:12 amp).

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

The devil questions Jesus identity again his tactics "If thou be", "has God said " are ignored by Jesus as the devil now incorrectly quotes (Ps 91:11) and leaves out to guard you in all your ways which is against him. Note now how Jesus handles trials tribulations and temptation.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Here is an amazing thing, the devil says all things will I give you. He could not have said that if he did not possess them. He had stolen them in the beginning.(Gen 1:26.) Adam was given dominion as his birthright. Now Jesus will take all back, finished on the cross. As He exclaimed, "it is finished" ( John 19:30).

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Jesus exerts power and authority contained in the Word of God. Temptation is defeated. Three times Jesus has declared "it is written" (Heb 4:15) Jesus was in all points tempted as we are but remained without sin by the Word of God.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

The devil left him, Jesus has given us the weapon and battle plan against all temptation attacks, the word of God. Immediately the devil leaves, angels come hearkening to the voice of His Word. (Ps 103:20). The Word of God is truly alive and full of power.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

Not because of John's imprisonment, but to call His disciples, who lived in that country.

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

A reference to (Is 9:1-2).

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Jesus begins to re-affirm what John had preached, that repentance (changing our thinking and changing our way of doing things (Matt 6:33) amp. into God's way of thinking and doing things as shown in His Word. But now instead oft John, this time the Kingdom of heaven is fully embodied in the person of Jesus who is anointed by God with the Holy Ghost and power (Acts 10:38).

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

They were to become fishers of the Gospel the good news of the message of salvation. God's power working unto salvation through Jesus the Anointed one and His Anointing the Holy Spirit (Rom 1:16-17 amp).

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

What power was in the Word of Jesus, they gave all to his service, not only their nets but fishing business, their boats, relatives and friends .When they heard the call, they gave up all!.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

They received a higher call.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Not only preaching the gospel, but with a demonstration of power (1 Cor 2:4).

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
